What happened
The North West Gambling Board (NWGB) worked with DEDECT and the South African Responsible Gambling Foundation (SARGF) to raise awareness of gambling harm among young people at the Baphiring Agricultural Hub.
It followed another NWGB campaign at the start of October in Moses Kotane, run with the Consumer Affairs Unit.
Why go to communities
Taking the message to places where young people already gather, such as local hubs and schools, reaches people who may never see an online campaign. Sessions like these explain the risks of gambling and where to get help.
Why it matters
Habits form early. Regulators that talk to young people before they start gambling, rather than after problems appear, are using one of the most practical prevention tools available.
